Common Mistakes & Misunderstandings
Small caps are not actual small caps: Proper typographic small caps are designed glyphs from a professional typeface. Unicode small caps (ᴀ ʙ ᴄ) are approximations using the closest available Unicode characters — they look like small caps but aren't from the same type family as your surrounding text.
Not all letters convert: Unicode has small cap equivalents for most Latin letters, but some (like c, f, q, r, x, z) have limited or approximate substitutes that may look inconsistent.
CSS small-caps is different and better for web: If you're styling a webpage, font-variant: small-caps in CSS is the typographically correct approach. Unicode small text is for plain-text contexts where CSS isn't available.
